A heart of light beats at the bottom of the sea. Every creature you bring it makes the deep a little brighter.

Brinelight is a calm idle game in pixel art. Moon jellies, seahorses, anglers and stranger things really swim around your reef, and when two different species drift close, a thread of light forms between them. Hold the water to pull a current, and herd your creatures into a web that burns twice as bright.

This demo

The first three zones: the Twilight Reef, the Midnight Trench with its warm vents, and the Abyssal Plain with anchored glass sponges and a gulper eel that eats your web. The Depth Log, trials and secrets are all there.

The full game

  • Three more zones (the Hadal Gardens' constellations, the Drowned Choir, the blooming Heart of the Deep), the Leviathan's endless dreams, a real ending, and new laps after it.
  • About 11 hours to the ending if you play actively, around 50 if you mostly let it idle, and endless dreams after.
  • Your reef as a living wallpaper, behind your desktop icons (Windows 11), or full screen (Mac, Linux).
  • Buy once: no ads, no microtransactions, no timers. For Windows, Mac and Linux.

Fair

  • No account, no data collected: your reef is saved in your browser. (A demo save doesn't carry over into the desktop game.)
  • No text-box tutorial: the game shows you one thing at a time, and a codex (H) explains the rest.
  • The creature and backdrop art began as renders from a local image model, turned into pixel art by our own tools.
